Hardened to the End-Lent 27, 2022

The bowls are being poured out and the wrath is intense.

Revelation 16:8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.

They know God has control over it but instead of coming to their senses and begging God to take them back, they curse His name.  They dig in and double down.  They seethe with hatred and refuse to repent.  They disdain His glory and will never acknowledge it.

There’s no ignorance here.  It’s in-your-face rebellion with no shame.
So, the wrath continues.

Revelation 16:10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.

This is one of the saddest portrayals in all of Scripture.  People so hardened to the very end that they won’t even seek relief for their own sakes … if it comes from God.  Such is their spiteful hatred of Him.

Thought for today:

If there are any people you know like this today, pray for them.  Reach out to them. Implore them. There’s still time to repent.
