With Christ in the Upper Room- Lent 2015 Devotional Series

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2015.

This year’s devotional series is entitled With Christ in the Upper Room: Final Preparations

We will work our way through what is often called “The Upper Room Discourse” found in John chapters 13-17.  If these were Jesus’ final preparations for His disciples before He returned to heaven, we are wise to take them to heart in preparation for His return.

If you’re on the email distribution list, you’ll receive the Lent 2015 devotionals automatically as you did with the Advent devotionals.  If you’d like to sign up for this daily inspiration during the 40 days of Lent, you can sign up on the sidebar of the SeminaryGal Home Page or by clicking “Like” on the SeminaryGal Facebook page.  Let’s meet With Christ in the Upper Room.

===note: All the With Christ in the Upper Room devotionals are archived beginning February 18th 2015.

    Hello:

My husband and I have been tasked to find a Lent Devotional 2015 for a diverse congregation consisting of homeless and low income families, believers and non believers. Wondering if your 2015 “Christ in the Upper room” devotional would be appropriate as a handout.

Hi Debbie and Steve, I hope you will find this year’s series helpful. The Upper Room Discourse is an intimate look at Jesus’ final instructions to His best friends, His followers, the disciples. The devotionals I do for Lent typically involve a format including a Scripture passage, some reflections on the topic, a point to ponder, and a series of questions (sometimes with additional Scriptures) to help each person apply the point of discussion to his/her own life.

This year’s series will begin with seeing (1) The full extent of Jesus’ love (in action & words) through His final instructions (2) On Humility, (3) On Serving—doing what Jesus is doing, (4) On Being Made Clean, (5) On Examples, and (6) On Betrayal. Those are the topics for the first 6 devotionals from the Gospel of John 13-17 (The Upper Room Discourse).

These devotions are posted on Monday through Saturday since Sundays are not counted in the 40 days of Lent, as Sunday is the Lord’s Day. My general approach is to “make the theological understandable” by being conversational in tone, rather than scholarly. Big words no one understands don’t teach as well as stories, analogies, parables and conversation—which is how Jesus taught. This hopefully ministers every bit as well to those who have been followers of Jesus for a long while and those who do not know Him, but are willing.

If you go to the archives on the sidebar to March of 2014 you’ll find the “Be Still” series beginning with http://seminarygal.com/out-of-shame-and-into-stillness-lent-1-2014/ and February 2013 was “Paul’s Letter to the Romans” http://seminarygal.com/come-and-get-it/ and the year prior was the “Up to Jerusalem” series http://seminarygal.com/lenten-devotionals-2012-up-to-jerusalem/ .

I hope you’ll join me for this year’s journey into the Upper Room with Christ. 🙂
