The Life Of Christ–A Worship Arts Event by Toni Groshek

A Time Of Meditation Through Song & Scripture

About “The Life Of Christ” from this morning’s bulletin:

“So often, our worship themes and liturgical calendars focus on only one aspect of Christ’s life or God’s character.  Through The Life Of Christ, the worshipper experiences the entire Gospel story, from beginning to end, meditating on Christ’s birth, his earthly ministry, his death, and his resurrection.  My purpose in creating this program is to foster an atmosphere of intimate personal worship, as well as to provide an opportunity to joyfully respond to God as a community of worshippers gathered together in his name.  The program consists of corporate worship, vocal solos, dynamic Scripture readings and visual media that enhance the spoken and sung word.  I created The Life Of Christ [TLOC] in 1996 after receiving my Masters degree in Vocal Performance. I was looking for a creative way to express my Christian faith within the classical performance realm. Using the traditional recital platform, my repertoire consisted of art song and opera/oratorio arias, as well as Scripture readings. In 2007, I began to transform TLOC from a classical recital to a contemporary worship program, using hymns and worship songs, as well as the element of visual media.  This morning’s program marks the 21st  event in my tour with TLOC as I continue to perform it in churches and on campuses throughout the tri-state area.  For more information, visit my website:  www.tonigroshek.com  ”

Welcome–Giving Thanks for God and His Deliverance (1 Chronicles 16:7-36)

Scripture Reading–1 Chronicles 16:7 That day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this psalm of thanks to the LORD: 8 Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 9 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 10 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Worship in Song:  Linda and Alan Blankshain, Long Grove Community Church

Hymn #570:  “We Gather Together”

Prayer

Hymn #565:  “Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”

Scripture Reading (Mary Hamrick)–1 Chronicles 16:11 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. 12 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.

Testimony—Mary Hamrick, Dragonfly Ministries

Song:  “Give Thanks”

Scripture Reading (Bill Slater)—1 Chronicles 16: 13 O descendants of Israel his servant, O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. 14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 15 He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, 16 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac. 17 He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: 18 “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.” 19 When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, 20 they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. 21 He allowed no man to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: 22 “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

Testimony—Bill Slater, Bill Slater Ministries

Scripture Reading–1Chronicles 16:23 Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. 25 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. 28 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength, 29 ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

Song:  “Thank You Lord”

Scripture Reading–1 Chronicles 16:30 Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 31 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The LORD reigns!” 32 Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! 33 Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. 34 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 35 Cry out, “Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, that we may glory in your praise.”

Testimony

Hymn of Response:  Great is Thy Faithfulness (Hymn #37)

Benediction–1 Chronicles 16:36 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the LORD.”

Message: by Jim Hardman, Lakeview Presbyterian Church in Vernon Hills, IL

1 Chronicles 17:1 After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent.” 2 Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.” 3 That night the word of God came to Nathan, saying: 4 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. 5 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another. 6 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders whom I commanded to shepherd my people, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”‘ 7 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture and from following the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel. 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men of the earth. 9 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 10 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. “‘I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you: 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne will be established forever.'”
