Neither Slumber Nor Sleep

That God watches over us is good news!  That He never falls asleep on the job is good news, too!  I, for one, am glad that God doesn’t just need a CPAP machine or a My Pillow in order to finally get needed sleep.  I, for one, am rather jealous that He can keep going without sleep.  But most of all, I am grateful that His watch is constant and His care for us is without end.

Psalm 121:1 A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains– where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip– he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you– the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm– he will watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

There are way too many people who think God has totally given up on the Jewish people.  I am distressed that (on some social media platforms) antisemitism, outright hatred aimed straight at the heart of “the Jews” is not only tolerated, but some self-proclaimed Christians do it.

Have they forgotten that Jesus was Jewish?
His parents were Jewish.
He was sent first to the Jews.

I remain grateful that there has been a season of grafting Gentiles like me into the tree of faith and that a time will come when the full number is in and the Jewish people who love God will have their eyes opened and be grafted back in.  Reread Psalm 121 above. What does it say?  Now and forevermore.

That’s good news.

Father God, I thank You that You neither slumber nor sleep. That Your watchful eye is over Your people– both the Gentiles who have come in by faith in Jesus Christ and those Jewish people who love You. I thank You that they will soon see and acknowledge Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, too. I thank You Lord for the promise being “now and forevermore”. How I praise You that You don’t just give up on us when we fail You. But You are consistent, faithful, and true. I praise You Lord for my Jewish brothers and sisters who have been faithful throughout the generations, the very ones who made it possible for Jesus to come from the Jews as was foretold in Your word. Salvation is from the Jews (John 4:22) spoken from the lips of Jesus Christ Himself. I thank You for that Lord, and I pray for revival in our nation and our world. I praise You that You are working all of this in Your will, Your plan, and Your timing. It’s all headed toward Your return so I ask that we would turn our eyes upon Jesus and any who do not yet believe will hear Your voice and see Your movement in our days. Let there be true and powerful revival that none can deny is happening throughout this world. Please Lord, bring a great and beautiful harvest for Your glory! I pray all of this in the mighty Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
