Faithful and True- Lent 33, 2022

We often think of war as not being godly and those who serve in armies as somehow not pillars of the faith.  Like it’s an unholy pursuit.  This passage is encouraging that even though we do not desire war, we’ve been in one since the fall of man back in Genesis.

Revelation 19: 11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.

He judges and wages war. He doesn’t come to bring peace.
And in this instance any of the ones screaming “Peace, peace!” are not the holy ones.

Jeremiah 6:10 To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the LORD is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it. 11 But I am full of the wrath of the LORD, and I cannot hold it in … 13 “From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.  14 They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace.  15 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them,” says the LORD.

Wow.  They do not even know how to blush.
Does that not describe our culture?

Thoughts for today:

The spiritual, holy war will soon be upon us in Revelation in 40.  For all the times we’ve been told we must be tolerant and have unity, in what ways does that contribute to a culture that doesn’t even know how to blush?

Look at this through the lens of today’s headlines.

Make no mistake, Jesus is returning as the One who is Faithful and True.

Revelation 19:12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.  13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.  15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

What does this passage tell you about the war we’re in, the character and nature of those who follow Him…and the outcome of this war?
