My Vision of Your Appointing Persons-Lent 23, 2020

Prayer Focus: God raises up workers and brings down rulers

Thank You, Sovereign Lord, for Your plan which is simultaneously eternal and expansive while also being as personal as electing each one of us to serve You while were still in our mothers’ wombs. Thank You that our actions matter, that You reward the humble of heart and lift us when we are discouraged. Thank You that our desires for serving You in accordance with Your will are always something You desire to bless. Thank You also that You cannot be bought with wealth or earthly power, that the proud and the self-proclaimed elite among us need Your saving grace as much (if not more than those whose hearts have always been Yours). Help us not to compare our God-given roles to another’s. Help us to stay in our own lane, doing Your will–each of us–with cheerful hearts. I pray for our nation and our leaders, that they might have wisdom and spiritual discernment to see Your Spirit on the move. We’re admonished in Scripture to treat every day as if it’s the Day of Your return. Help us to be wick-trimmed and oil-ready, quick with the Gospel of hope to those who need to hear it when time is of the essence, able to comfort others with the comfort we have received from You, and discerning among spirits because the times are challenging. May we be like Bereans and study the Scriptures to know what is real and what is false in our world. Keep us strong and focused. Keep our eyes on You for there is no one else who can save us and who offers us the Word of life. May we be Your warriors, not worriers when You appoint us to take a stand for You. I am Yours, Lord. Send me. Amen.

My Vision of Lord of the Sabbath-Lent 22, 2020

Prayer Focus: Greater than any temple

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are greater than any temple made by human hands. A relationship with You is far greater than any religious dogma, meditation, recitation, or incantation. You don’t hear us more by many words, but You hear our hearts beating with words we cannot even think to utter in worship. We praise You that the Holy Spirit turns our groanings into a beautiful liturgy and song heard only by Your ears and heart. Even when You walked the earth, You were greater than the temple. You were greater than any religious practice. You have always been Lord of the Sabbath. Remind us during troubled times, even when Your Church is forced underground and out of buildings, yet You hear us. You recognize Your Church assembled as many voices in prayer, many songs arranged into beautiful harmony, and many people who all worship One God, One Father, One Lord, One Christ. Our unity even when sequestered is evident in the spiritual realm. Be glorified today, Lord Jesus. Our Sabbath is Yours and we offer it back to You as our Lord and King. Amen.

My Vision of True Healing-Lent 21, 2020

Prayer Focus: True Healing is Eternal Healing

Lord Jesus, thank You that when Your earthly ministry was being done, You proclaimed the good news of the Kingdom of God and You went about healing diseases and sickness. Your priority was the good news, the Gospel of Your salvation by healing the consequences of our sin, but You also healed diseases and sickness to offer us something visible to see a pattern of what is spiritual and unseen. In our current climate of concern about an unseen virus and uncertainty of the future, thank You that Your Gospel is eternal, the healing it offers is eternal, and the consequences and benefit to us are eternal as well. Years from today, if Your return has not intervened, we will look back on this with the eyes of history and human healing. People will be cured, others will recover, and yet others will never know the difference. But eternal healing is something that will make a difference for everyone who has breath today, and will make an eternal difference for those who come to know Your forgiveness and mercy. Indeed it is the only healing that matters beyond the grave because Your healing is one they will enjoy eternally. Those whom You have set free are free indeed. Thank You for Your forever sacrifice on the Cross for human sin. Thank You for the forgiveness You bought by Your shed blood. Thank You for the grace and love beyond our understanding and far beyond any human timeline. Thank You that Your forgiveness knows no national boundaries or age limits. We humbly acknowledge this unmerited favor and offer You the deepest thanks from sincere hearts. For Your glory, Amen.

My Vision of You as King-Lent 20, 2020

Prayer Focus: Jesus is King over creation and the spiritual realm

Almighty God, Lord of hosts, a day is coming in which every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Jesus is Lord over all things seen and unseen, realms earthly and spiritual. While a battle ensues, even now, we have complete assurance that the victory by King Jesus has already been won. Therefore, we will not let the unseen trouble us. We will not fear because You are with us and if You are with us, who can be against us? I pray, Lord, that each person who reads these words will know You and the forgiveness You offer. The Day of Your return and reckoning is both a time of relief and celebration as well as a terrifying day for those who do not know You. The birth pangs, as You call them, the signs in the heavens and on the earth pointing to the Day You return are everywhere. Wake us from our sleep, O Lord. Jostle us from our complacency to know these traumatic events have been predicted and are being fulfilled just as Your Day of Judgment is coming, is true, has been predicted, and will be fulfilled when Your hour is upon us to crown You as King of kings and Lord of lords. No weapon formed against us or You will ever stand. You are King even now. We bow before Your throne and acknowledge Your holiness, Your power, and Your justice. You are my King. Amen.

My Vision of Authority in Teaching-Lent 19, 2020

Prayer Focus: If the teaching is authoritative then….

Lord Jesus, there are no more authoritative words than those You have given us. 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” May we never neglect the teaching and receiving of Your Word. Your Word is life. We praise You, Father. We praise You, Jesus. We praise You, Holy Spirit. Amen.

My Vision of the Way Out-Lent 18, 2020

Prayer Focus: You’re Not Trapped

Lord Jesus, please give me eyes to see Your perspective on all life events. Yes, human sin is rampant. Yes, we are not grieved as often as we humans should be at the sin we so easily accept. Yes, evil is everywhere and it’s enough to make us feel helpless against it, like it is a riptide carrying us far from safe shores. But we praise You, Lord, that You provide the way out of the labyrinth of sin and confusion. You are our Way. May Your Holy Spirit be pleased to show us how to see this world as You see it, to guide us through when human strength and wisdom suffice, and to carry us out of fear and panic and into the hope and trust we find in You because You are faithful! You are so good and wise and loving! You are merciful and forgiving! Strengthen us with Your holy comfort, cover us with Your hands when there are things we cannot bear to witness, give us hearts to turn toward You, and when we cannot even lift our own heads to look upward because our sin and shame are so deep and dark, we humbly ask that You would lift our heads to see You and Your perfection. Remind me often that there is no fear in love, that perfect love drives out fear and love overcomes a multitude of sins. You are love. Strengthen us with that confident knowledge of our standing with You, even as we face a coming judgment in our world of sin. Bring many to repentance, Lord. Let each of us who know You be praying intently for our nation and just one who is lost, knowing the angels in heaven rejoice when even one soul comes home to You. Praying all this to You alone, our One and only God. Amen.

My Vision of Salvation’s Design-Lent 17, 2020

Prayer Focus: Jesus Crucified was not Plan B

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your supreme sacrifice at the Cross. Thank You for the mercy that flows from Your wounds and by them we are healed. Remind me during times it seems like the world is spinning out of control, You’ve got the whole world in Your nail-pierced hands. Scripture tells us that Your plan of salvation was from the beginning of creation, that You’ve been the Lamb of God slain from the beginning for the sins of man. Help me to see that suffering made Your plan perfect, and if wounds of life made You perfect as the founder and architect of our faith, then there is value in our suffering too. Help us to turn from our sin and look to You during troubled times. We need You, Lord Jesus. Amen.

My Vision of God’s Giving Nature-Lent 16, 2020

Prayer Focus: God as the Giver of Good and Perfect Gifts

We praise You, Lord, as the Father of the heavenly lights, that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from You. We praise You that You do not change like shifting shadows. You send abundant showers and shower us with gifts of many kinds–health, wealth, joys, peace, food, clothing, housing, friends–and especially that You chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all You created. May we learn to be grateful people, even in the midst of life’s crises and strife. For You are with us. You have not forsaken us. Everything good in our lives comes from You. Please do not let us get discouraged in our daily circumstances, for even our sorrows have passed first through Your hands of love so that we might learn Your comfort and to rely upon You. Give us the gifts of grace and gratitude. For it is in Christ’s Name we pray. Amen.
