Worship in Song:

Scripture Reading (Old Testament)

Genesis 11:1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” 5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel–because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Scripture Reading (New Testament) John 17:19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. 20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

Prayer

Message:  Beyond Sufficient to Foil the Plans of Man by Barbara Shafer

God foils our plans for 2 main reasons: (1) because of His character and (2) because of ours.

  • God’s character is LOVE and He is forming PRIORITIES in us
  • God’s character is HOLY and He is forming PURITY in us.
  • God’s character is MERCIFUL and He is forming PATIENT DEPENDENCE in us.

It’s really very simple.  In foiling our plans, God is preserving His character and He is forming ours for the better plan He has for us in Christ.

Benediction—Barbara Shafer
