Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.
Before our Father’s throne
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one
Our comforts and our cares.
We share each other’s woes,
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.
When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.
This glorious hope revives
Our courage by the way;
While each in expectation lives,
And longs to see the day.
From sorrow, toil and pain,
And sin, we shall be free,
And perfect love and friendship reign
Through all eternity.

I love that you are selecting hymns that have worn the test of time well. Their simple, yet beautiful melodies ring clear and true, and their words have depth of meaning. Sometimes the oldies, even in hymndom (How do you like my word creation?), truly are the best.

Thank you, Karen. One of our regular presenters at the hospital prefers hymns to just about any kind of worship music out there, primarily for the great theology that has stood the test of time…just as you say.
Right now, I’m enjoying the way that worship takes my mind away from the troubles of this world that the Bible tells us are “momentary” and fixes my eyes on the eternal where these troubles melt away.
I can make up words too: hymntherapy! 🙂
